Full rez is here in case it gets shranked.
So wheew, goat parents dropping a Flowey line. I always kind of assumed Flowey’s philosophy came from a combination of soulessness and Chara’s past influence, and I think no matter what Chara probably didn’t help when it came to Asriel’s decisions/state of mind, but when I really got to thinking about it, I wondered if his parents wouldn’t be susceptible to that line of thinking as well. Toriel and Asgore survived a genocidal war, and for a long time really struggled to believe in humanity afterwards in their own ways. It’s kind of amazing that neither of them are more cynical, but I suppose they’ve had hundreds of years to sort their feelings out.
I hesitated with a lot of lines on this page because I know the “Toriel’s kind of a hypocrite” view isn’t exactly popular among the UT fandom. Then again, I’ve been completely wrong so far when it comes to predicting what will and won’t be controversial among readers. Everything I thought for sure would piss people off so far hasn’t. XD Instead, the idea that Undyne is responsible for a few soul deaths has apparently been the toughest pill to swallow, which has been a huge surprise. I’m hoping to get my full thoughts on the matter up on my personal blog sometime tonight if I get a spare moment (today is kind of my catch-up-on-social-media-blitz-day), but I will say that current UT canon doesn’t directly contradict the idea to my knowledge, and that I didn’t make that decision casually, or just so that Asgore would look better. There’s consequences to Undyne having a kill count, and although they won’t be revealed until – heck, probably two chapters from now? x.x – I’ve left quite a few hints as to what they are in this one.
It all depends on when the Hammer of Justice retired.
Anyway, stay awesome, friends. And keep challenging me on my lore so I don’t mess up. <3

Patreon || Personal BlogYeah, I always see this conflict in Asgore's favor, tbh. It's obviously colored my fanfiction, and I'm okay with that. But it's nice to have forewarning that I might get some hate for it (in addition to what creatures I interpret the royals as being).
